Slashdot Effect
Ever wonder what the Slashdot effect looks like? I've got some MRTG graphs from when my site was DDoSed. It's very subtle, only the most trained eye can spot when the Slashdot crowd came. There's also a paper on the Slashdot effect with a lot more information than my graphs. If you find yourself in a similar situation, mod_throttle can save the day. Also, Moveable Type's file-writing architecture certainly had something to do with the site staying up (and the load not going above .60).
